A living jewel of the forest floor, Selaginella wildenowii dazzles with its iridescent blue-green fronds that shift in tone depending on light and angle. Though called a "fern," it’s a spikemoss—primitive and ancient. Its layered, almost feathery growth adds a misty, enchanted feel to terrariums, understory plantings, or shaded tropical corners.
Selaginella Wildenowii (Peacock Fern)
Light: Bright, filtered light or light shade. Avoid direct sun, which can bleach or burn the delicate fronds.
Water: Keep consistently moist, never dry. Likes lightly damp—not soggy—soil. Use soft or filtered water if possible.
Humidity: Needs high humidity (70–90%) to thrive. Excellent choice for terrariums or covered displays.
Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C. Very sensitive to cold and dry air. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C.
Soil: Loose, airy, and moisture-retentive mix—peat or cocopeat blended with perlite and a bit of bark works well.
Fertilizer: Light feeder. Apply a half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
Mounting: Can be mounted, but only in very high-humidity environments (like closed terrariums or shaded moss walls). Otherwise, best grown in shallow pots or dish gardens.Special Notes: Handle gently—fronds are fragile. Loves still, humid air and should be kept away from fans or AC vents.
