A rare jewel among aroids, Amorphophallus atrovirdis is prized for its moody, dark green to blackish foliage with subtle silver undertones. Native to Thailand, it grows from a tuber and produces a single umbrella-like leaf with a textured, sculptural form. A truly unusual addition to any tropical or aroid collection—quiet in presence, but dramatic in form.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light or dappled shade. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch its delicate leaf.

Water: Water regularly during the active growing season (spring to late summer), keeping the soil lightly moist. Reduce watering drastically during dormancy.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (60–80%) for best growth.

Temperature: Warm conditions are ideal—20–32°C. Do not expose to temperatures below 15°C, especially when dormant.

Soil: Well-draining, airy mix—use a loose blend of rich loam, cocopeat, perlite, and a bit of orchid bark or pumice. Tubers must not sit in wet soil.

Fertilizer: Feed monthly with a balanced or nitrogen-rich fertilizer during active growth. No feeding during dormancy.

Special Notes: Goes fully dormant after the growing cycle—leaves die back and the tuber rests for several months. Do not discard! Let the pot dry out and store in a cool, dry place until it sprouts again. May produce a dark, otherworldly inflorescence before or after leaf-out.
